Eun Jin Park, graphic designer & project coordinator I am really lucky to have been able to be a part of the MIMB project with Hui-chu. I have learned the importance of organizational skills as I coordinated information on the many wonderful works of art in this project. I also have enjoyed working as a member of the design team. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Thank you. _JIJI |

Wm. Tanner Young, photographer In a dark studio, lit only by the modeling lights of our strobes, Andrew and I were fortunate enough to work closer than anyone with printed books from all around the world. In this intimate setting, the work was very hands on, and often I would find myself spending more time than needed to photograph the books flipping through them, absorbing them, learning from them. Andrew and I would discuss the ones that stood out as we worked. And after it was all said and done, we took almost 2000 images between the both of us. Editing and organizing for the designers was tedious and time consuming, and communication was key. What I didn’t know of Adobe programs, I quickly learned, and in the end I’ve learned a great deal and am better for it. I hope our photos allow you to enjoy the books as we have, to get close enough, to know the personalities of these books as we have.

Andrew Thomas Lopaz, photographer I would help Printmaking Professor Hui Chu Ying with almost anything, so when she called and asked Tanner and me to photograph some art books for MIMB, I jumped at the chance. I had a decent idea of what the project was, since I myself had previously created a book for the program. It was incredible to see how all of the artists participated, in their own way, to add to this collection. We spent many moments admiring the detail and craftsmanship of the books and took even more time figuring out how to photograph the book’s best qualities. The workload was much more than what I had expected, but it was well worth it in the end to have the opportunity to be a part such an inspiring collection. The photographs Tanner and I shot of the books do them justice, however, to hold them in your hands and immerse yourself is much more fulfilling. |
